Hey Friends far and wide!

It’s been awhile, but a lot has been brewing here at Vivants headquarters in SF.  Back in May, the band recorded a 6-song EP at Prairie Sun and we just received the final product last week!  Bluegrass Special is a feisty lil’ bugger packed with traditional and original tunes and will be available at our local shows very soon.

The other big news is we will be taking our brand new EP with us as we journey out to the East Coast for our first New England Tour!

NYC here we come on Monday Sept 1, then heading north to Providence, RI, then to Burlington, VT  and CROSSING THE BORDER to Montreal!  Dates and info on where we are playing are below.  If you know anyone in these cities please let them know we are coming to town.

For all the armchair geographers, will be sharing our adventures via our Faceplace and Instawham.  So if we don’t see you on the road, please sign up for our posts which we promise won’t be just Waffle House food! More news about our upcoming CD Release show will be coming down the pike when we return in mid-September. Stay tuned!

We had an amazing weekend up at CBA’s Grass Valley festival last weekend.  Saw lots of old friends and made lots of new ones too!  Highlights included the reunion of Kathy Kallick’s band, the David Grisman Experience, Molly Tuttle, the Evie Ladin Band and jamming till the wee hours at the Handsome Ladies camp.

Back in SF, the chilly winds blow but we still have so many warm memories from last weekend!  This Sunday, June 28 the sun will be out for our debut show on ANGEL ISLAND! If you’ve never been out to this beautiful rock floating in the SF Bay, now is your chance to come and take hike, enjoy the city views and enjoy some free music. Show starts at  2p-5p.

This Monday, June 29, The Vivants will be hosting one of our favorite SF traditions, Bluegrass Monday at Amnesia.  We are delighted to have joining us, the initimable Larry Chung on banjo and and mandolin. 9p-1130p. FREE.

Summer is here!

We are heading east to Kansas City tomorrow where it’s 21c!  The cherry blossoms and magnolia trees are blossoming here in San Francisco so it will be an acclimation for sure, but we are ready to hit the road nonetheless for Folk Alliance 2015!  We’ve added some additional showcases to our Official Showcase on Sat. Feb.  22.

Our personal favorite showcase is the Library of Congress’s American Folklife Center (AFC) invitation to perform our own version of a Lomax-collected song. This year marks the 100th birthday of influential folklorist and musician Alan Lomax (1915-2002), who collected folks like Muddy Waters, Lead Belly, Aunt Molly Jackson, and Woody Guthrie.

from Aerosmith to Randy Travis have sung it!

Happy New Year One and All! 2014 was an amazing year for the band and we already have some BIG news to kick off 2015! We are proud to announce our musical compadre, Kalei Yamanoha will be permanently joining The Vivants!  He has been playing with us for the last few months on accordion, guitar and trombone while we searched for a replacement for Isaac Bonnell, our former badass accordionist.  Isaac bid farewell last year to focus on his academic pursuits and we knew finding someone to fill his shoes would be tough!   But we are SO delighted to have discovered such a multi-talented musician for our upcoming tours, performances and recording projects.
